Pathological Studies on Etiology of Tubal Pregnancy

Abstract
The materials were from 154 cases who had undergone salpingectomy under the diagnosis of tubal pregnancy at the Department of Obsterics and Gynecology of Pusan National University Hospital from September, 1961, to September, 1965.
In 131 cases of them the gravid tubes and in 23 cases, both the gravid and the non-gravid tubes were studied grossly and microscopically
The anther classified the pathological findings and correlated them with the preceding histories of abortion (spontaneous and artificial), tubal inflammatory disease and pelvic operation. The results and conclusions were obtained as follows.
1. No differences were for any predisposing factors in the sites of implantation and types of interruption in tubal pregnancy between foreign and Korean women.
2. There were chronic inflammatory changes in all the non-pregnant portions of the pregnant tubes.
3. In the chronic forms of inflammation, follicular salpingitis was 54.6 per cent, perisalpingitis 13.6 per cent, interstitial salpingitis 7.2 per cent, salpingitis isthmica nodosa 6. 5 per cent, Follicular salpingitis with chronic perisalpingitis was 13 per cent and chronic salpingitis with hematosalpinx 1.3 per cent.
4. In the cases, the common causes of tuba] pregnancy seemed to be the chronic salpingitis due to post-abortive infection.
5. The main etiology of tubal pregnancy in Korean seems due to chronic salpingitis caused by artificial abortion which is now commonly performed in Korea.
